Sugar Girl

I love sugar.  even though i have made the change to being raw, i notice that i still love agave-sweetened tea, chocolate, desserts, raw bars, and even the beet/carrot juice i love is very sugary!!  all day, i tend to sprinkle sweets into my diet, never in large quantities, but very regular tastes.  i am now going to WEEN myself off the sweets a little bit and see what happens.

i don't believe that sugar is bad.  someone told me that deepak chopra said that our draw to sweets is connected to being drawn to the sweetness of life:  why would we cut ourselves off from that??  sweet is energy, raw energy--we need sugar in order to live!!  but i can tend to overdo it, and i think it leads to me wanting more and more.  i don't think it has anything to do with weight, as i am still losing weight.   i just wind up feeling out of balance, so i'm going to see if i can do with a LITTLE less...

yesterday we made these "almond butter cup" treats:  raw chocolate (mix in food processor:  1 cup coconut oil, 1 cup cacao powder, 1/4-1/3 cup agave, put in fridge to harden, layer with raw almond butter and another layer of the chocolate).  they were SO SWEET (we used 1/2 cup agave:  too much!!) that it tipped me off about my sugar thing.  part of me wanted it, but another part was repulsed by how sweet it was.

i think that the addition of more greens will help to moderate the sweets craving.  i read that somewhere.

good luck on your personal transformations, everywhere!!

You inspire my dear in ways you may never know:-) Off to Nia at Headquarters - I will dance with gratitude for YOU!

  2. are you not eating any dairy nor any grains?
because both of those things also satisfy sweet cravings.
also, have you gotten into dried fruit? super sugary. just make sure to get the kind without sulfur.

  3. cool blog Amy! Right there with you with the whole sugar addiction. It's ingrained into us as children. Halloween is like the most nightmare holiday I can think of, just giving kids crack. Anyhow, I know you were talking about wheatgrass somewhere else on here and I wanted to mention a product called E3 live. They sell it in the frozen section at Sundance. It is more potent than wheatgrass and can perhaps curtail those sweet cravings! Plus I think it's more economical and it's local(Klamath Lake). Hope that helps and hope you are well.

    Peace,
    Grace

  4. Indeed we are programmed to love sweet foods... Fruits have evolved to produce natural sugars so that mammals would spread their seeds. I love sweet things, and have been enjoying lots of dried mangoes, raisins, and apples from Hummingbird Wholesale for satisfying my sweet tooth. Dried fruits are one of the worst things for your teeth though apparently, so I always make sure to rinse my mouth very well w/ water afterwards if I can't brush.
Also, Agave is good, but it is so sweet...six times sweeter than table sugar. I usually always use 1/2 of what is called for in any recipe. I've also become a big fan of coconut sugar in combination w/ agave....that's how I made the Bliss Cookie Sandwiches that I sold last year at the festivals.
